MFFP Fish Series Episode 1- Brook Trout

In this mini series, Greg LaBonte of Maine Fly Guys and myself will be highlighting Maine gamefish that you can catch on a fly rod.  We'll be discussing places to find these things (not exact locations), techniques to use in each season to catch them and flies that we find effective.  In this first episode, we highlight Maine's treasure, the brook trout.  

Episode 9: Sean Flagg on Backcountry Fly Fishing

In Episode 9, I interviewed Sean Flagg, an avid backcountry fly angler.  Sean shares the intricate details about how he prepares for his backcountry float tube trips and lets us in on some techniques that he uses to be successful on the water.  He details what gear he uses and will help those planning a backcountry trip take out a lot of the guess work.  I appreciated Sean's authentic New England conversation and I know listeners will really enjoy this episode! 

Episode 8: Jon Peterson of Peterson's Guide Service of Maine

In Episode 8, I interviewed friend and fellow guide, Jon Peterson of Peterson's Guide Service of Maine.  Due to COVID, this was the first interview that I've done over the phone and not in person, and needless to say the sound quality came out very good.  Listeners will get to know Jon's story and learn about what his multifaceted fishing guide business has to offer.  We also talked about the hot topic of social media and fly fishing in the state of Maine to try to educate people on ways to post responsibly while sharing your stories and successes about your passion of being on the water.  

Episode 7: John Blunt of Grant's Kennebago Camps

In episode 7, I met with John Blunt, the owner of Grant’s Kennebago Camps in Rangeley Maine.  John shared his fly fishing background and talked about how he came to acquire Grant’s Camps, and provided us with some history of this historic fishing lodge.  He shared some awesome fishing stories, and his passion for fly fishing, especially on Kennebago Lake is undeniable when he speaks.  We also talked a little grouse hunting, which is another passion that John and I both share.

Episode 6: James Browne of Maine Striper Guide

In Episode 6 of the Maine Fly Fishing Podcast, I met with James Browne at Eldredge Brothers Fly Shop in Cape Neddick, ME to discuss life as Maine striper fly fishing guide.  James is well known for his massive stripers that he brings to hand on the fly as a shore angler, and has a reputation of being the best striper wading guide in Maine.  He talks about some striper techniques and shares some great stories.  James is as passionate as anyone in Maine about the striper population and he discusses his thoughts on how to make striper fishing more sustainable along the east coast. 

Episode 5: Jeff Davis of Maine Fly Company

Maine Fly Company is Maine's premier small batch fly rod business.  In this episode, I sit down with owner Jeff Davis to learn all about his new venture and how fly rods are made.  Jeff talked about  what you should look for when selecting a fly rod of your own.  It was also great talking with Jeff about our shared passion for some of Maine's most special waters!

Episode 4: Megan Hess of Beadhead Fly Fishing

In episode 4 of the Maine Fly Fishing Podcast, I sat down with Megan Hess of Beadhead Fly Fishing.  Greg LaBonte of Maine Fly Guys co-hosted the show with me.  We were excited to talk with Megan about being a Registered Maine Guide, women's fly fishing in Maine and learn a little about some entomology here in Maine.

Episode 3: Nate Wight of North Woods Fly Co.

In Episode 2, I interviewed Greg LaBonte of Maine Fly Guys.  I caught up with Greg to learn about his fly fishing background and his new venture: Maine Fly Guys.  We discussed fishery management and trout stocking in Maine.  We also talked fly tying, the influence of social media on the fly fishing world, and Greg gave me some tips about proper fishing handling.
